Brier Payne Meade Insurance, Inc. (BPM) is a Topeka-owned independent insurance agency which has been in operation since 1916. Three Topeka agencies, Brier Insurance, Dennis Payne Insurance and the Meade Company, have merged since 1987 to become the current BPM operation.
BPM originally operated only in Topeka, but in 1997 entered into an affiliation arrangement with Hedges Insurance in Lawrence. BPM also began an operation in Kansas City in 2000. BPM now has offices in Topeka, Lawrence and Kansas City.
Principles of Brier Payne Meade are Dennis C. Payne III, President, and John B. Payne, Secretary. BPM currently employs 32 people, which includes 13 producers, and 19 administrative employees. BPM has primarily been a property and casualty insurance agency, but has recently expanded into life insurance and financial services.
BPM has recently enacted a broad perpetuation plan by adding several younger individuals to the organization. Four younger producers, Jonathan Payne, Tim Payne, Doug Hamilton and Clint Kueffer, bring strong skill-sets of selling and service, and bring a revamped sales energy to the organization. Sarah Kueffer has taken over BPM’s new-business marketing effort and strives to find the best carrier matches for our prospective clients. We believe we have a strong team in place to ensure our operation prospers for years to come.
It is BPM’s intent to continue to grow aggressively in the property and casualty insurance market in all three geographic areas of Topeka, Lawrence and Kansas City. We believe we are an exceptional service-oriented organization and you will be satisfied with the customer service we provide.

1. Frequent contact with, and ready access to, the assigned Producer and Customer Service Representative (“CSR”), and the Owners or CFO if necessary. Producer contact can be expected throughout the year and not necessarily just when renewal activities make it necessary; and,
2. Timely service from a competent team that fully understands the client’s business and industry. BPM should concentrate on providing detailed insurance guidance to each client.
BPM’s client list numbers in excess of 6,000 clients. BPM’s reputation for retention of clients is excellent. The Company has served many clients in excess of 20 years.
